When Barack Obama announced to the world that Osama bin-Laden had been killed, his speech writers scripted his message along the tried and tested ‘Hero’s Journey’ structure. This structure is very common in inspirational stories – think Luke Syke Walker, Harry Potter, Jesus Christ.
The Hero’s Journey is very good for emotionally bonding the audience to the speaker/hero. It was a speech very well written.
